What is sexual desire, and how is it related to personal love? What happens when sex is divorced from love, and what changes when it is attached to a virtual object, as in pornography?
ROGER SCRUTON has written on most major topics in philosophy; his published works range from academic philosophy, specialising in aesthetics, to fiction and political and cultural commentary. His books include The West and the Rest: Globalization and the Terrorist Threat, The Aesthetic Understanding: Essays in the Philosophy of Art and Culture, and Modern Culture.
Scruton earned his Ph.D. at Cambridge, writing his thesis on aesthetics.
His public speaking has included a 1997 London debate against the authors Richard Dawkins, Christopher Hitchens, and A. C. Grayling in London on the topic Are We Better Off Without Religion?
