 The Center for Christian Study is located at 128 Chancellor Street in Charlottesville-across from the University of Virginia. The Center is housed in a converted residence situated near the Corner shops and a number of fraternity and sorority houses. The original building was constructed in the 1920s. In 1996 and 1997 a 5,000 square foot addition was built to offer additional meeting rooms, library space, and offices, and in the spring of 1998 major exterior renovations were made on the original building.
The Center for Christian Study's building serves a wide variety of purposes. First, it provides meeting/classroom space for all Center-sponsored activities. It also houses a library and reading room for University students and community members to use for research, reflection, and study. In addition, the facility has two smaller rooms available for bible studies, prayer groups, and other similar meetings.
The building holds all the offices for Center staff as well as an office for Reformed University Fellowship at U.Va. and Young Life of Charlottesville.
 Splintered Light Books (an independent local business), has a store in the main section of the building. Splintered Light Bookstore is an 'ecumenically orthodox' Christian bookstore focusing on theology and cultural criticism, though we have much more and can order almost anything. We are not limited to religious titles.
Additionally, eight undergraduate men live in community at the Center in remodeled basement apartments. The Center also houses a graduate student who acts as the resident manager for the facility.
The facility has a number of informal and unstructured purposes. The Center for Christian Study building serves as a "clearing-house" for  information for the University and local communities. Christian groups are allowed to use the CCS photocopier for ministry purposes, as well as schedule rooms for meetings, bible studies, and the like. Equally important the Center for Christian Study building has plenty of "nooks" for informal conversations and "hanging out."
Please come visit us. The Center for Christian Study building is open daily from 9:00 AM to 10:00 PM. The Office is open from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM weekdays. |
