Engaging Students With Truth

20110726_CCS_026Engaging students with Truth—this is at the heart of all we do here at the Center for Christian Study. We want students to gain a complete education in their time at the University of Virginia: growing in knowledge at a world-class university, to be sure, but in a way that brings a deepening understanding of the gospel to bear on all they learn and all they do. We would like to see students live out that truth in the complexities of the world, in their time here at U.Va. and as they leave the University to the varied places of God's call on their lives.

Engaging students with Truth—there are a lot of ways to do that and, trust me, the Study Center is involved in a lot of them! As you will see in the following pages, our home here on Chancellor Street extends a warm welcome for studying, friendship, prayer, and food—even as it offers the great challenge of the gospel through one-on-ones, discussion groups, courses, and not-to-be-missed lectures from some of the nation’s leading Biblical scholars and theologians.

Of course, this ministry, freely offered to the U.Va. community, does not come without a cost. The Lord has made us stewards of a wonderful old house in the historic Corner district and, as we like to say, “company is coming” every day. We have a talented staff, dedicated to providing pastoral care and opportunities for growth throughout the year. All this has been made possible by the generous gifts of God’s people for over thirty-five years now.

I hope that the following pages will give you a sense of that calling to engage students with the truth of the gospel—and a sense of the ongoing need for the gospel here at the University of Virginia. I hope too that, by helping to meet the financial needs of this longstanding ministry, you will choose to become a part of the welcome and the challenge we offer here!

Yours in our Lord,
