For Bob Cochran, joining the Study Center Board is a return home. A long-time friend of the Study Center, Bob studied Law at the University of Virginia from 1973-1976, during which he participated in the Study Center's first Law Christian Fellowship meetings. He was discipled by Daryl Richman, Ken Elzinga, and Beat Steiner during the Study Center's first year (1975). Bob met his wife Denise at Trinity Presbyterian Church and they were married in Charlottesville in 1982. Bob and Denise have three children and four grandchildren.

From 1983-2020, Bob was a Professor of Law at Pepperdine University. While there, he was the Director and Founder of the Nootbaar Institute on Law, Religion, and Ethics and co-founder of the Global Justice Program. Bob has traveled to Rwanda, Uganda, Sudan, South Korea, Vietnam, Thailand, and China, assisting global justice groups, supervising students, consulting with governments on religious freedom issues, and speaking on religion and law.
