Board Member

Marta McKinnon has worked as a counselor and consultant in a variety of settings for all 30 years of her professional life. Currently, in addition to her counseling work as a marriage and family therapist, Marta enjoys leading workshops and retreats focused on building teams, opening communication, trust-building and managing change in corporate and non-profit settings. 

Marta received her undergraduate degree from Wheaton College and her graduate degree from Boston University. Marta met her future husband Rob at Wheaton and they were married in 1986. They have two children, Ellie and Will. Ellie McKinnon Thornton, along with her husband Grayson Thornton, graduated from UVA in 2016 and spent many happy days at The Study Center. Marta and Rob are enjoying a new phase in life as "open nesters" after raising their children and moving to Charlottesville 3 years ago. They are members of Trinity Presbyterian Church.
