It is fair to say that no one has influenced the modern, mass music scene more than Bob Dylan. Both the variety of his musical styles and the content of his lyrics have made significant impacts throughout American culture from the academy to the street. We will look at Dylan as a person from the scrawny kid who left home at 17 to the sage-like figure of recent times, and through an analysis of his musics and his messages, seen in the context of his life as an artist, attempt to draw some conclusions about the meaning of his work for American culture today and in the future.
DREW TROTTER, President of the Center for Christian Study, has lectured in seminaries, churches and colleges on culture and theology for nearly thirty years. He is the author of many articles and reviews and of the forthcoming book Show and Tell: How to View a Movie Responsibly (Baker Academic, 2007). Back to Faith & Life Lecture Series
