a Saturday Seminar given April 4, 2009 by Drew Trotter
Listen to Understanding Popular Culture: The Christian and Entertainment in America Today
Session 1 (22.9 mb mp3)
Session 2 (20.4 mb mp3)
All of us have some idea of what the phrase "popular culture" means, but few of us have thought very deeply about it. After defining the phrase, we can focus on the entertainment products of American culture, developing a Christian critique of that culture's themes, techniques, and values as they are demonstrated in music, narrative, news reporting and game-playing today. This seminar also seeks to help students develop skill at discerning how and where popular culture and Biblical truth intersect.
DREW TROTTER is the National Director of Centers for Christian Study International and Executive Director of the Consortium of Christian Study Centers. He has written on film and popular culture for over thirty years in such publications as Books & Culture, Christianity Today and Critique. Drew has also lectured and taught in seminaries, colleges and churches all over the United States. He teaches a seminar entitled Show and Tell: How to View a Movie Responsibly, and is working on a book of the same name.
