Listen to Understanding World Religions: An Introduction to World Religions
Session 1 (23.2 mb MP3)
Session 2 (21.7 mb MP3)
Around the world, religions are not in decline; rather, they are flourishing and influencing cultures, civilizations, and nations. Understanding the variety of religions is therefore crucial to understanding our world — and our neighbors. This seminar will investigate Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, and Hinduism to better understand their origins, beliefs, and practices. We will also compare each religion to Christianity.
JUSTIN HOLCOMB, Associate Rector of Christ Episcopal Church, Charlottesville, received his Ph.D. in Religious Studies from Emory University. He earned an M.A. in Theological Studies and an M.A. in Christian Thought from Reformed Theological Seminary, Orlando, Fla. He teaches for the University of Virginia and Reformed Theological Seminary. His edited volume, Theologies of Scripture: A Comparative Introduction (New York University Press, 2006), explores various views of the authority and nature of scripture throughout the Christian tradition.
