According to Joel Salatin, the USDA mantra to grow it faster, fatter, and cheaper views livestock as merely masses of protoplasm, ready to be manipulated by the clever conceptions of the human mind. Such disrespect carries over toward people and other cultures. In contrast, Salatin contends that a moral thread ties the farm to the plate—a soul-satisfying thread connecting farmers and eaters in nobility and sacredness.
