God Speaks: Acting the Word in the Drama of Redemption

April 1, 2011

What happens when "first theology" takes not philosophy but drama as its helpmate? God's relationship to the world comes into theatrical—rather than merely theoretical—focus, for the God depicted in the Bible is a God who does things with words and requires human beings to do so, too. Yet those at play in the field of the Lord's Word are not to be only hearers or speakers, but also doers. A theology attuned to the dramatic nature of the gospel seeks bold, imaginative ways for the church to participate in the triune communicative action that comprises revelation and redemption alike.
