Prayer for Sorority Recruitment Hospitality
Prayer for Week 2 — Virginia Greenberg
Dear CCS Parents and Community,
This coming Sunday will be the final day of Rush, and we're so appreciative of all that the Study Center has given over the past couple weeks. From serving meals to providing a warm shelter to surrounding them with a loving community, there is no doubt women have already felt the Holy Spirit through this process. Please join us as we pray for these precious students:
We pray for discernment and kindness in all of the decision-making. May God provide wisdom.
We pray for strong hearts and peace for women struggling with disappointment. May God be their comforter and saviour.
We pray for sustained energy for the Study Center staff and volunteers serving. May God renew hearts, minds, and tired hands.
We pray for time and space for Gospel-centered conversations with women visiting the Study Center. May God reveal himself in new ways and grow new friendships.
We pray for continued health and safety throughout the weekend. May God be the protector.
With love,
Virginia Greenberg, Study Center Board Member
Prayer for Week 1 — Marta McKinnon
Dear CCS Parents and Community,
Today is a big day for many young women at UVA, the first of two Sorority Rush weekends! Friday through Sunday, this weekend and next, women will be getting acquainted and being interviewed in hopes of receiving bids from their favorite sororities. Throughout the weekends the Study Center will be providing warm hospitality and cheer.
I've had the privilege of serving at the Study Center for previous Rush weekends, along with other volunteers and our wonderful staff, and it is a joy to provide support and a cozy stop-over. Engaging in conversations and witnessing women caring for each other through an exciting and stressful process is inspiring. Not having attended a college with Greek life myself, I always wonder if I would have had the chops to put myself out there at their age.
Hundreds of women will be in and out of the Study Center in the next few days! We are thrilled to host them for the first time in our expanded building with more space (and more bathrooms). Would you join us in prayer for all who enter into Rush weekend, and especially their respite time with us at the Study Center? Here are a few suggestions as we lift them up to the Lord:
Peace and confidence for the women rushing; that they could feel "seen" even as they are usually engaging in short conversations that don't always reflect who they are.
That the women would feel the peaceful presence of the Lord while they are at the Study Center.
That staff and volunteers would be able to bring the light of Christ to the ladies who come through the Study Center.
Safety in the cold and icy weather, especially as the new recruits will need to walk to each sorority house.
Energy for all of the women to continue to engage well, even after long days.
To be able to turn rejection into confidence and hurt feelings into hope.
Thank you friends. May Jesus' words to His disciples in John 14:27 be made more real to each soul that enters our doors:
"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid."
With blessings and gratitude,
Marta McKinnon, Board Chair
