7 Days of Prayer for the UVA Community

True prayer is neither a mere mental exercise nor a vocal performance. It is far deeper than that - it is spiritual transaction with the Creator of Heaven and Earth.
— Charles Spurgeon

Last semester, many of you joined us in prayer for the UVA community during 7 Days of Prayer. Friends of the Study Center took time each day to collectively set their intentions before the Lord. We prayed on behalf of University undergraduate students, leaders in administration, Grounds ministries, graduate students, faculty, and ministry here at the Study Center.

In the wake of the tragic events last fall, we initiated the 7 Days of Prayer as a way of accompanying students and faculty through exam week with prayer. In these prayers, we sought deeper relationships with students in Christ, greater partnerships with Christian ministries, and stronger community with faculty. As we reflect on the semester so far, we recognize that God has graced the Study Center with all of these gifts.

This Spring, the Center for Christian Study will host 7 Days of Prayer again with the following intentions in mind.

  • We saw the Lord move mightily through your prayers last semester. The practice of praying with a group of believers to cry out for mercy, peace, and love has long been the practice of the Church, one that transforms our hearts as much as it does the community that we pray for. We pray with hopeful expectation that He will work through our community’s prayers again.

  • Christians are commanded to pray in Scripture over and over again. Through this practice, we obey God and bring our hearts and minds closer to him.

  • The community of the Study Center is strengthened as we pray together. No matter where you live or how busy you are, we invite you to join us in 7 Days of Prayer this spring.
