Why Should Christians Care About the Liberal Arts?

The study of the liberal arts is rightly associated with the classical world, but it also has a long and storied Christian heritage. In this talk, Dr. Frey will discuss some of that history, to make the case that Christians should continue to care about the Liberal Arts as a means of deepening our ability to know and love God.

Jennifer A. Frey is Director of Programs in Classical Liberal Arts at the University of Virginia, where she is also a Fellow at the Institute for Advanced Studies in Culture and Visiting Professor in the College of Arts and Sciences. She was previously the inaugural Dean of the Honors College at the University of Tulsa. She has edited three volumes on virtue and human action and is currently writing a book on the liberal arts and freedom. Her writing has appeared in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Chronicle of Higher Education, and First Things, and she hosts the podcast Sacred and Profane Love.
