Speaker Series for Women

March 21, 2014 | Women and Body Image

We all have a body. And women in particular live in a culture that bombards us with messages about that body. We're told what it should look like, what it should not look like, how to take care of it, and how we should use it. Often we have conflicting emotions about our own bodies. We love them, we hate them, we want to show them off, and we want to hide them. Are women doomed to body confusion?

In their talk on body and body image, Katherine Edwards and Ellen Foster will address why we should talk about our bodies at all, and how there is hope for women to enjoy a Christ-driven view of their bodies.

April 11, 2014 | Women and Power

Whether we are aware of it or not, as human beings, each of us possess power. Power can be used for both good and evil and most of us have experienced both in our relationships. We have the opportunity to distinguish between the love of power and the power of love. Susan Cunningham and Tim Jones discuss how we can learn how our family of origin, our gender, and our story impacts our use of power. Ultimately, we can embrace the gospel that frees us to use our power for good.
